Capoeira Batizado and Graduation 10/10/10
On October 10th, Boca held his annual Capoeira Batizado and Graduation ceremony. This year’s adult event was combined with the kids who also were part of the initiation ceremony and got promoted for their development through-out the year.

Boca do Mundo was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil where his first interest in the art of Capoeira began. After moving to New York in 1991, Boca began his formal training under the tutelage of Professor Bom Jesus and after many years of serious commitment advanced to become Professor Bom Jesus' first graduated student in the U.S. After receiving his green cord (belt) he began teaching his own classes and traveling across Brazil and the US participating in events and workshops taught by renowned Capoeira masters.
In the past, Boca has conducted lecture demonstrations at Yale University, New York University, Columbia University, and the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, UT. In addition to teaching at such universities he has also taught classes for young kids at Martin Luther King Jr. High, El Puente High, and PS 217 in New York and various other public schools in San Antonio and Austin, TX in an outreach program for underprivileged kids.
In 1996, Boca alongside his teacher Professor Bom Jesus, introduced Capoeira to Crunch Fitness where they taught for over three years at various locations. It was the first time Capoeira was taught in a gym setting in New York State.
Presently, Boca teaches Capoeira classes to students of all levels.
Curuma is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt under Jacare, member of the Jacare Manimal Carlson Gracie Academy. Curuma began training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at age 16 in Salvador, BA. Little after he started training he realized his passion for the art and sport and never looked back.
During the course of his career in Jiu-Jitsu, he traveled through-out Brazil competing in many major events which eventually led him to come to the U.S.
Currently, Curuma holds a BA in Sports Science from FTC (University of Technology and Sciences) in Salvador, BA. In addition to being a Jiu-Jitsu instructor, he is also a personal trainer in body and strength conditioning.
Nick Affuso has more than two decades of martial arts experience, teaching adults and children. He has transformed a life-long interest into a career and continues to expand and refine his skills through training seminars with masters in the US and abroad. He is currently pursuing a Masters Degree in Exercise Science and in the past has been a Fitness Trainer at Equinox Fitness, Bally’s and NYSC in New York. Nick is extremely knowledgeable in weight training, bodyweight training, P.N.F. stretching, static stretching and plyometrics. He is also certified in kettle bells and bands training for strength and conditioning.
Continuously building on his knowledge, Nick has extensive experience in teaching students at various skill levels.
Master Instructor and Study Group Leader
Born in 1955, Mr. Garrido started his martial arts training in 1964. The first martial art that he ever studied was Nihon Goshin Aikido under Richard Bowe. In 1973, he received his black belt from Richard Bowe making him an instructor (Kyoju Dairi) in Nihon Goshin Aikido (Morita-Ha Daito-rye Aikijujutsu).
In 1982, Mr. Garrido received his black belt in Daito-ryu Aikijujutsu (Kodokai) under Tatsuo Shimpo sensei. He continued training and in 1985, he received his Master Instructor (Shihan) status in Yoshitsune Hakko-ryu Jujutsu under Michael DePasquale Sr., So-Shihan Yoshitsune Waza. In addition to that, Mr. Garrido has also received several Presidential Sports Awards and recognition from the Martial Arts World.
In 1997, Mr. Jose delCristo Garrido was inducted into the World Martial Arts Hall of Fame and since that he has been undergoing intensive training in Mainline Tradition Daito-ryu Aikijujutsu, under Katsuyuki Kondo (the only extant Menkyo-Kaiden).
